Lewis Hamilton squeezed to his second pole position of the year and his 33rd of his career which equals Jim Clark's British Record. It was a long session after heavy rain postponed Q1 by over an hour. But as soon as the cara got out on track Mercedes showed how much faster their car is after leading by 2 seconds at one point in the session. The big story in Q1 was Romain Grosjean after he managed to finish 11th and get through to Q2. With 35 seconds to go in the session the Caterham of Marcus Ericsson aqua-planed into the wall bringing the session to a close. Quali 2 was red flagged quickly as the Torro Rosso of Daniil Kvyat collided with Ferrai's Fernando Alonso in a racing incident. Alonso's stearing arm was broken in the incident bit Ferrari used the red flag to their advantage and had Fernando out on track in a matter of minutes. Q2 showed how much Williams dislike the rain as they failed to get into Q3. The weather took a turn for the worst yet again in Q3 but McLaren's Jenson Button risked the intermediate tyres hoping the track would dry out, this sadly failed. His team mate Kevin Magnussen whom had aqua-planed off the track in Q2 had damaged his diffuser but still managed to get 8th. At the sharp end of the grid Lewis Hamilton seemed in a class of one but Sebastian averted wasn't far behind. A mistake from the world champion meant that he had to settle for second place. But for Hamilton he will be hoping to get right back in the championship by taking his first win in Malaysia, but with the weather for Sunday unknown it's still is anyone's race.
