Nico Rosberg made a mega marker that he is still hungry for the 2014 world championship with a stunning pole time in Q3. Nico Rosberg had been slower than team mate and championship rival Lewis Hamilton in practice 1, 2 and 3 but got the upper hand in Q1 after Hamilton had to use a set of option Soft compound tyres, after a lock up earlier in the session. With Caterham and Marussia absent from the grid only 4 cars went out in Q1. Sebastian Vettel who will start in the pit lane set a time well inside 107% to appease the F.I.A. but Romain Grosjean was the slowest of the 18 runners and at the end of. The session his team told him he was out "by a country mile". Sauber's Esterban Gutierrez and Torro Rosso's Jean-Eric Vergne also fell at the Q1 hurdle. In Q2 Lewis Hamilton complained about front locking while Rosberg put in a stunning lap at the end of the session. The Lotus of Pastor Maldonado nearly got into q3 for the first time this season but in fact was prevented by Sauber's Adrian Sutil who got his and Sauber's first Q3 appearance of the season. The two Force India's of Sergio Perez and Nico Hulkenberg both missed out along with Daniil Kvyat and Pastor Maldonado. In Q3 Nico Rosberg stepped up to a new level and eased to pole with Hamilton nearly 4 tenths behind. The Williams of Valtteri Bottas and Felipe Massa impressed again with 4th and 5th while Ferrari struggled. McLaren's Jenson Button qualified 7th but will take a 5 place grid penalty for a gearbox change while Daniil Kvyat will take a 10 place penalty for using a 7th internal combustion engine. But ahead of the race it's going to be a good battle between the two Mercedes possibly like Lewis Hamilton an Sebastian Vettel back in 2012.
