Mercedes once again took pole in 2014 but this time it wasn't Lewis Hamilton but his team mate and world championship leader Nico Rosberg. The German took pole by nearly 3 tenths as he took successive poles at the Sakir Circuit in Bahrain. It was a disappointing day for Red Bull as Daniel Ricciardo's 10 place grid penalty will drop him outside the top 10. But for the sister Red Bull it was an even worse affair as the world champion Sebastian Vettel could only score an 11th. But equally it was disappointing for compatriot Nico Hulkenberg as he could only manage 12th. Fernando Alonso struggle in his Ferrari as he was beaten by Kimi Raikkonen for the first time in 2014 as the Spaniard could only get 10th out of his Ferrari. Pastor Maldonado struggled in his Lotus (and not for the first time) as he once again went out in Q1. The best qualifiers were Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas who will start 3rd and 4th with Ricciardo's penalty. It will be an interesting race in the dessert but will Hamilton take the fight back to Rosberg.
