Lewis Hamilton took another big step towards the 2014 World Drivers Championship with a cracking win at the US GP, on the 6 year anniversary of his 2008 championship. The result now means that Lewis Hamilton is the most successful British driver of all time. It was a composed race from Hamilton who was close behind pole sitter Nico Rosberg like in 2012 with Sebastian Vettel. But after the first round of pit stops Hamilton was much quicker than Rosberg, which led to a stunning overtake on the back straight after Rosberg left the door open. Daniel Ricciardo claimed another podium after 3 great moves on Fernando Alonso and the two Williams of Felipe Massa and Valtteri Bottas. After a poor start by the Aussie, but when the Safety car came on lap 1 the two McLarens of Jenson Button and Kevin Magnussen pitted which released Ricciardo. The Safety car came out after the Force India of Sergio Perez made a bold move on Adrian Sutil but hit Kimi Raikkonen's Ferrari which slung the Mexican into the Sauber ending Adrian Sutil's best chance of points this season. Pastor Maldonado, Jean-Eric Vergne and Esterban Gutierrez all received penalties for speeding under the Safety Car while Jenson Button was cleared of any wrong doing. On lap 18 Nico Hulkenberg had an suspected engine failure/oil leak causing his retirement. The Lotus' of Romain Grosjean and Pastor Maldonado looked like a different team as the car was able to compete and provided Pastor Maldonado with his first points of the year despite another penalty for speeding in the pit lane. Romain Grosjean was also destined to score points until Jean-Eric Vergne made a clumsy pass on the Frenchman damaging the Lotus. The resulting debris then hindered team mate Daniil Kvyat's race as the debris became lodged in the front wing, while the Lotus had steering issues to the end. Jenson Button had been holding onto 8th in the closing laps but when his tyres fell off the cliff he fell down and out of the points along with Kimi Raikkonen who was hardy seen in the race. Sebastian Vettel had been struggling in the earlier stages of the GP but as the fuel burnt down and a bold strategic call by Red Bull saw him nearly catch Fernando Alonso at the end after the pair had another awesome battle just after Alonso's final stop. But out front Hamilton took the spoils and looks like the 2014 championship might just be swinging his way. But just as we as with Nico Rosberg earlier in the year things can swing very quickly in f1.
